Nutritional information on wine labels
As of December 2023, all wine producers in the European Union are subject to new regulations requiring the inclusion of nutritional information on their product labels. The purpose of this regulation is to provide consumers with greater transparency on the content of wines, whether for purchase or consumption in any establishment.
This new regulation establishes that mandatory information must include details on allergens, energy value, nutritional values and ingredients. It is expressly stated that the allergens and the energy value per 100 ml must be printed directly on the physical label of the wine, thus ensuring easy access to consumers.
On the other hand, nutritional and ingredient information can be provided through a QR code or a web link that must be placed in the same area of the label where the other mandatory information is indicated. It is important to emphasize that these links cannot direct the user to pages with commercial or sales messages. The regulations expressly prohibit any form of user tracking or collection of personal data.
The use of this QR code system provides consumers with quick and easy access to information that can be offered in the different languages of the countries where it will be marketed.
Ecolécera has already adapted to these new regulations, which represent an important step towards greater transparency and consumer protection in the wine market and will be applied to the new labels.
